Phrases I Wish Were Banned from the Business Vernacular

Although I've certainly been guilty of it myself, I hate lingo. It shows a lack of creativity in using words, also most people say ise the lingo without even realizing it. Here are some phrases that should be banned:

"At the End of the Day..."

"And Oh By the Way..."

"I'm working in the [such and such] "space"... (I think this started in the tech field, where they all wanted to actually be in space.)

"Organic Growth"... (Most of us are not involved with organic anything, unless you live on a farm or have an infant.)

What are your favorite phrases to hate?

I'm not a fan of the phrase "in lieu of."

To me it means that I'm not going to get something I wanted and instead, they're going to give me something I didn't want.

"Exceeding expectations." I wish someone would exceed my expectations and stop using this phrase.

"Consumer." I know, this is a controversial one; but we humans are much more complex than simply what we consume. Please, can we start calling people "people?" People form relationships, and as marketers, we're all eager to form relationships. So let's start looking at our "potential friends" as who they really are - multi-dimensional and complicated.

"All the Way to Bright"

Can someone PLEASE tell me where Bright is???

If you are not all the way to bright, does that mean you actually are all the way Dim? Hmmm, I think people who use this term may be all the way to Dim!

How about "Shopping Experience" -- totally over-used in market research.
Or when I say "Thank you" and someone answers "No problem" ... did I say it was a problem?

Please don't let me hear someone say, "reach out to" every again! And what exactly do you mean when you say, “level set?”

Here's one that I just heard and really despise - "ladders up to"

Interesting and funny subject! Here are some phrases, ideas to spice up the old conference calls, and info.

"Can you CC me on that"
"You have to 'find your fit'"

"Think outside the box" (I always recall the Taco Bell commercials and think "Think outside the bun", don't know why, ha )

"Lets create a win-win"

"Go Green" - great words, but action is better ; ) seems to be the modern trend, but needs to be more than a slogan...

Other:
In the corporate world, many words are utilized to inspire positive energy, growth, and communication. At times, they can become merely words, and passed over - losing their true meaning. They're great buzz words, when put into action, and I don't take away from their value, but sometimes they can make you want to claw your eyes out! What words do you hear that are redundantly reiterated at your work? See "Corporate Lingo Bingo" links while on calls!

It should be obvious to everyone that, at the end of the day, we are all in business to seamlessly maintain user-centric information so that we may authoritatively utilize progressive methods of empowerment while promoting new insights and organic growth in the shopper experience space.
